About this event

This is a summer vacation special exhibition focusing on the diverse occupations of people who lived in the Minato Ward area during the Edo period. Facing the sea and intersected by the Tokaido road, this area was home to a variety of jobs, including fishermen, transporting cargo using boats and cattle, working at teahouses where travelers stopped, and businesses catering to samurai families. Through valuable historical materials such as ukiyo-e woodblock prints and ancient documents depicting working people, this exhibition introduces jobs related to the sea, the Tokaido road, and samurai estates. From jobs that continue into modern times, to similar occupations, and even rare trades no longer seen today, visitors can enjoyably learn about the lifestyles and working lives of Edo-period people through the museum's collection. It is ideal for finding hints for summer independent study projects, with content enjoyable for both adults and children.
