About this event
Known as Meguro Ward's largest citizens' festival, the "Meguro Citizens Festival (Meguro SUN Festival)" is a popular autumn event associated with the classic rakugo story "Meguro no Sanma" (Pacific Saury in Meguro). The signature feature is the "Meguro Pacific Saury Festival," where fresh Pacific saury shipped directly from Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, is charcoal-grilled and served at the venue. Every year, over 5,000 sauries are prepared, bustling with many visitors. Serving of the saury is limited to those who applied in advance and won the lottery, but a local product fair is also held at the venue on the day, where visitors can purchase specialties from Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. In addition, taiko drumming performances and other stage shows will be held, filling the venue with energy. The festival is mainly held at Dendo Hiroba Park, but related events may also take place at the Meguro Civic Center. Admission is free.
