Masato Yamaguchi Solo Exhibition 'SELFY'
Japanese name:山口真人 個展「SELFY」
📅 Fri, Aug 7, 2026 - Mon, Sep 7, 2026
About this event
The solo exhibition 'SELFY' by spotlighted contemporary artist Masato Yamaguchi, who explores the nature of portraiture in modern society, will be held at Shibuya PARCO. This exhibition is the largest archive exhibition to date commemorating the 5th anniversary of the launch of Masato Yamaguchi's representative series 'SELFY'. Focusing on Shibuya street culture and 'selfie' culture, it redefines what seems like a consumptive act as 'contemporary art' and poses the question, 'Why selfies now?' In addition to new works created specifically for this exhibition featuring Elaiza Ikeda as a model, masterpiece works usually difficult to view—including collaborations with celebrities—will be gathered with the cooperation of domestic and international collectors. The vast collection of stencils that form the core of the creation process will also be unveiled, and PARCO's unique interactive venue layout and spatial direction will offer a unique viewing experience of Yamaguchi's works. The 'SELFY' series, which started in late 2020, has established international acclaim, and this exhibition allows you to fully enjoy what can be called the culmination of these works. Furthermore, a special talk event featuring comedian Kogaken is scheduled to be held.
