About this event
The Shibuya Konno Hachimangu Annual Grand Festival is the largest festival in Shibuya, held every September. As a festival for the Aoyama and Shibuya areas, it is a traditional event carried on for several hundred years to pray for bountiful harvests, city prosperity, and good health for parishioners and worshippers. In 2026, it will be held from Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20. On Friday the 18th, spirit enshrinement rituals will take place in each neighborhood, and on Saturday the 19th, an eve festival (yoimiya) will be held. On Sunday the 20th, the procession (togyo) starts from 12:00 to 13:30, and from 14:00 to 14:30, a ceremony and a joint procession of 14 neighborhood mikoshi will take place in front of Shibuya 109. Afterward, the mikoshi will head to each neighborhood's sacred sake pavilion, with the return ceremony (kankyo) at 19:00. The joint procession, where 14 mikoshi from Shibuya's neighborhood associations gather in front of Shibuya 109 and are lifted simultaneously, is a breathtaking sight where the festival reaches its peak excitement. Another highlight unique to the cosmopolitan city of Shibuya is seeing people from various countries and regions coming together to enliven the festival. Please note that registration for mikoshi bearers has closed as capacity has been reached.
