About this event
Held in conjunction with the Musashino Hachimangu Annual Grand Festival, the 54th Kichijoji Autumn Festival is a lively annual autumn event where numerous portable shrines (mikoshi) parade through the streets around Kichijoji Station. Distinctive mikoshi are brought out by each neighborhood association, wrapping the entire town, including the arcade in front of the station and surrounding streets, in a festive mood. Featuring the powerful message 'Mikoshi revitalize the town,' it draws many people as an event where the local vitality can be felt. A children's joint mikoshi procession is scheduled for Saturday, the 12th, and a joint mikoshi procession is scheduled for Sunday, the 13th, with shrine mikoshi and neighborhood association processions also taking place on both days. There is also a period before the main event where mikoshi and floats are exhibited in various locations, heightening the town's excitement in advance. Traffic restrictions are also scheduled around the station on the day of the event.
