About this event

"Tama Lantern Festival 2026" is a magical autumn festival celebrating its 8th year, held in the Toyogaoka and Kaidori areas of Tama City, Tokyo. Centered around J Smile Tama Hakkakudo, approximately 200 Vietnamese lanterns illuminate the town, creating an exotic atmosphere. The "Tama New Lanterns," filled with the sentiments of the local community, and various light-ups also gently brighten the entire neighborhood. Leading up to the main event, community-wide initiatives such as costume making for the lantern parade and review meetings for an original craft beer jointly developed with local residents have been held to build excitement. This year's theme is "Light Up the Fun, That Light Sets the Future in Motion." A diverse lineup of programs will be featured, including a walking rally in collaboration with students, monument-making workshops, the "New Yoichi" local creators' market, a lantern band parade, food and food trucks, and live performances. The walking rally starts earlier than the main event, allowing visitors to enjoy walking around the town from daytime. Different vendors are planned for each venue, featuring food stalls offering Vietnamese banh mi, Indonesian cuisine, and American-style Mexican food, as well as sales of specialty goods from Namerikawa City in Toyama Prefecture and original craft beer. In addition to tasting food, interactive activities such as lantern making and consultations on local community initiatives are offered; strolling through the Toyogaoka and Kaidori areas while exploring each venue beyond J Smile Tama Hakkakudo is part of the fun. The "Keio Gallery Bus" will also make an appearance, with its interior decorated with lanterns crafted by participants.
