Niijima Fishery Experience 2026

From the overnight departure on Thursday, October 1 to Sunday, October 4, 2026, the "Niijima Fishery Experience 2026" will be held in Niijima Village, Tokyo. This fishery experience program is organized by the Niijima Fishery Cooperative Association, allowing participants to experience actual fishing activities such as kinme (splendid alfonsino) fishing and trolling. The training period runs from Friday, October 2 to Sunday, October 4. Participants will also be able to observe landing and shipping operations, make fishing gear, and attend classroom lectures. An attractive feature of this program is that round-trip ferry fares from Takeshiba, Tokyo to Niijima, on-island lodging expenses, and insurance fees are free of charge. However, lunch expenses and social gathering fees must be covered by participants. Eligibility is open to non-island residents under approximately 40 years of age who are interested in life on Niijima and the fishing industry, with a recruitment capacity of around 6 people. Applications must be submitted via entry sheet by fax or email between September 1 and September 15. A selection process may be conducted if applicants exceed capacity. It is a valuable opportunity to experience new ways of working and living in nature-rich Niijima.
