120th Anniversary of Birth: Setsuko Migishi Exhibition

About this event

An exhibition commemorating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Setsuko Migishi, who is known as the "painter of passion." Overcoming the early death of her husband Kotaro and the war, Setsuko Migishi gained wide recognition as one of Japan's representative Western-style painters. This exhibition looks back on her art through approximately 70 works, including masterpieces and pieces shown for the first time. Moving to France in 1954, she established her unique landscape paintings based in southern France and continued vigorous creative activities even after returning to Japan until her death at age 94. Supervised by art historian Satoshi Yamada, the exhibition traces the artistic trajectory developed throughout Setsuko Migishi's life.
