Odawara-Hakone 'Wood, Technique, and Artisan' Festival

About this event

The 'Odawara-Hakone Wood, Technique, and Artisan Festival' will be held as a pre-event for the KOUGEI EXPO in KANAGAWA taking place this November. It is an event where visitors can fully enjoy the world of woodworking products from the Odawara and Hakone regions, which boast a diversity rarely seen in the world. Under the theme 'Come! See! Touch! Wood is amazing!', a variety of programs enjoyable for both adults and children are prepared. One of the highlights is the '2026 Woodworking-1 Grand Prix' (Mokkou-1 Grand Prix), in which craftsmen take on the challenge of creating new wooden products that harmonize with modern lifestyles, featuring an exhibition of all 171 entries, including winning works. In addition, visitors can experience woodworking craft workshops at the 'Takumi no Hiroba' (Artisan Square), and there is also a 'Wood and Craft Woodworking Marche' where local artisans sell wooden products, as well as a corner where visitors can experience the mysterious mechanisms of trick boxes (karakuri boxes). Furthermore, precious historical materials will be on display in a special exhibition introducing the history and development of woodworking in Odawara and Hakone.
