Tori-no-Ichi (Rooster Fair)
Japanese name:酉の市
📅 Sat, Nov 7, 2026 - Thu, Nov 19, 2026
About this event
'Tori-no-Ichi' is held on the Days of the Rooster every November at Otori Shrine in Nakamachi, Atsugi City. Originally a private mansion shrine, visitors from nearby increased, and it is said to have started in the mid-Meiji period following the model of Asakusa. On the day of Tori-no-Ichi, open-air stalls selling lucky rakes (engimade) to pray for good fortune and business prosperity line the streets, buzzing with many worshippers. Under the lantern lights into the evening, the night stalls create an atmosphere distinct from daytime, making it a convenient time to stop by after work. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), the First Rooster (Ichi-no-Tori) will be held on Saturday, November 7, and the Second Rooster (Ni-no-Tori) on Thursday, November 19; this year has no Third Rooster and concludes with the Second Rooster. The event proceeds rain or shine, but because dates and hours vary each year, checking the latest information in advance is recommended. As there is no parking around the venue, using nearby paid parking or public transit is convenient. Accessible on foot in about 7 minutes from the East Exit of Hon-Atsugi Station.
