Held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, 'Echigo Nagaoka Sake no Jin 2026' is a sake festival where 14 breweries gather from Nagaoka, the 'City of Sake' that boasts the highest number of breweries in the prefecture and the second most in Japan, allowing visitors to savor approximately 60 varieties of local sake alongside Niigata delicacies. Participating breweries include Asahi Shuzo, known for the popular brand 'Kubota', as well as Kawachu Shuzo, Koshimeijo, and Morohashi Shuzo, all of which won gold awards at this year's Annual Japan Sake Awards, along with Aoi Shuzo, which has adopted a new structure following business succession. The venue is Aore Nagaoka, and because all seating is reserved, you can savor sake in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. You can also enjoy distinct Niigata gourmet specialties such as Tochio fried tofu, edamame, and seafood from the Sea of Japan. In addition, there are plenty of hands-on activities, such as the 'Nagaoka Sake Gacha' to win sake and event-exclusive merchandise, a tasting corner for Nagaoka-grown sake rice, and a 'Sake Tasting Challenge' to guess the brand. All visitors will receive a 'Machi-Nomi Coupon' good for one free drink at participating restaurants outside the venue, allowing everyone to enjoy an after-party. Direct interaction where brewery workers themselves serve sake to visitors is another key reason for its popularity, making it an event that can be enjoyed by both sake enthusiasts and beginners.
