About this event

Commemorating the 1,300th anniversary of the founding of Omi Shrine in Kamo City, Niigata Prefecture, the cultural and music project 'THOU(SA)NDS 2026' aims to connect local history, daily life, culture, and memories to the future through contemporary music and expression. Under the philosophy of 'Opening respect for local history and living culture together with music,' the project looks forward to expanding into culture, education, tourism, and international exchange. The main stage will feature Kotone, Ikuno Takagi, and Miwa Sasagawa, singers with ties to Niigata Prefecture, bringing together artists connected to various regions of the prefecture in Kamo. The PRELUDE ACT will feature HIROMASA, who mainly works in the Ken'o area, and Lou Harube, who has ties to the Sado region. The historic Omi-go, the cultural starting point of the project, is said to overlap with the area spanning present-day Kamo City, Sanjo City, and Tagami Town, and aims to reconstruct relationships utilizing the cultural diversity rooted in each area. Furthermore, using the name and history of 'Omi' as clues, the project incorporates a perspective that reconnects the history of seas, rivers, and faith across Niigata Prefecture, such as the Omi district and Omi Shrine in Itoigawa City, the Omigawa district in Kashiwazaki City, and Omisha remaining in Kanbara Shrine in Chuo-ku, Niigata City. In the finale before closing, local school children will join the performing artists to sing the Japanese nursery song 'Akatombo' in unison. In addition, reservation-only collaborations between specialty goods of Omi-go and performing artists are planned.
