The Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail Running Race 2026 is a magnificent trail running event set in the Shinetsu Kogen plateau, spanning Myoko City in Niigata Prefecture, as well as Nagano City, Shinano Town, Iizuna Town, and Iiyama City in Nagano Prefecture. Produced by trail runner Hiroki Ishikawa, it features a course setting connecting the Shinetsu Five Mountains across a mountainous area extending up to 160 km and linking various areas of the Shinetsu Kogen plateau. The event features two categories: 100-mile (163 km) and 110 km, each with different start times and time limits. The 100-mile race starts from Madarao Kogen at 18:30 on September 21 with a 33-hour time limit. The 110 km race starts from Madarao Kogen at 5:30 on September 22 with a 22-hour time limit. Eligibility is open to men and women aged 18 and older who understand the specific nature of trail running and possess the ability to manage situations at their own risk. In particular, the 100-mile category requires experience completing a trail running race of 100 km or longer within the past 3 years. The participation fee includes accident insurance, and participants will receive commemorative gifts such as an event commemorative T-shirt made by Patagonia. In addition to awards for 1st through 10th place for men and women in each category, finishers of the 100-mile race will be presented with a commemorative buckle. Furthermore, competitors placing in the top 10 for men and women in each category will receive priority entry rights for next year's race. A portion of the event entry fee is used for local trail maintenance activities and natural environmental protection.
