GALAXY SADO ART 2026 International Symposium

About this event

The "GALAXY SADO ART 2026 International Symposium" is an international event held in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture, to envision the future through art. In this symposium, practitioners from across Asia gather to deeply reflect on the relationship between humans and nature, the inheritance of regionally unique cultures, and the potential of art to connect local communities with the world. Regarding Sado Island as a "microcosm of the planet," and set on this island with a history spanning gold and silver mine development and the reintroduction of the crested ibis (toki) to the wild, the event reexamines the role of art regarding global challenges facing contemporary society. Researchers, cultural producers, and artists invited from Singapore, Taiwan, Setouchi, and Niigata/Sado will share the rich practices cultivated in their respective regions, consider the future of culture and society, and chart a new course for art directed toward the world.
