The Hakkaisan Osakiguchi Fire Walking Grand Festival is a traditional fire-walking event held in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. Held at Kongoji Temple at the Osakiguchi trailhead of Mount Hakkai, worshippers walk over blazing flames to pray for purification of mind and body, good health, and prevention of illness. This sacred ritual handed down from ancient times symbolizes the faith and culture of the region, and many people visit to experience its solemn atmosphere. During the festival period, various other Shinto rituals and events may also be held in addition to the fire-walking ceremony.
