About this event
The official homecoming event 'BLACK SAMURAI Toyama Homecoming' by professional basketball player Rui Hachimura, a native of Toyama Prefecture, will be held in Toyama City on Saturday, August 22, 2026—marking his first official homecoming event since becoming an NBA player. Under the theme of 'giving back to the hometown,' the event aims to revitalize Toyama through a one-day festival together with the people of Toyama Prefecture. At the main venue, YKK AP ARENA (currently Toyama City Gymnasium), a basketball clinic for elementary and junior high school students in Toyama Prefecture will be held, providing a valuable opportunity to receive direct instruction from Hachimura and members of the Toyama Grouses. Inside the arena, an opening talk, special programs with the Toyama Grouses, and a talk show with Hachimura will take place to energize Toyama through basketball alongside children and fans. Furthermore, at the adjacent Waterfront Plaza and Kansui Park, a 'Night Festival' featuring Bon Dance and a fireworks display will be held, with Hachimura scheduled to appear on stage. The venue will also feature a festival stall area modeled after the 'Sanno Matsuri' beloved by Toyama citizens, allowing visitors to enjoy Toyama's local food and culture with all five senses. This event is conducted as part of 'BLACK SAMURAI 2026', a platform where Hachimura connects the experience and mindset cultivated on the world stage to the next generation, fostering the strengthening and evolution of the Japanese basketball world. As a community co-creation project built with the cooperation of the entire Toyama Prefecture, it will be a true festival of Toyama that goes beyond the boundaries of basketball.
