About this event

Focusing on the belief that 'Hell' existed on Mount Tateyama, which has been known as a sacred mountain since the Heian period, this special exhibition unravels that spiritual world. Along with representative Japanese Buddhist paintings of hell such as 'Rokudo-e' (Six Realms Paintings) and 'Juou-zu' (Ten Kings Paintings), it introduces the world of Tateyama Hell depicted in Tateyama Mandalas. This will be a valuable opportunity to encounter the profound world of faith surrounding Mount Tateyama, which is usually little known. Through the exhibition, explore the mystical aspects of Mount Tateyama and the reasons why it has been revered by people since ancient times.
