About this event

The 'Nunobashi Kanjo-e', a ritual for the salvation of women in Mount Tateyama worship, will be held for the first time in three years. In order to grant afterlife rebirth in paradise to women who were forbidden from climbing the sacred Mount Tateyama during the Edo period, this is a ritual of 'rebirth' where participants dressed in white robes cross the Cloth Bridge (Nunobashi), regarded as the boundary between this world and the afterlife. After an interruption of about 130 years, it was revived in 1996 as a modern healing event and is currently held once every three years. In addition to the ritual on the day, bridge-crossing experiences for general participants (same-day registration) and the 'Ashikuraji Gottsuo Matsuri' selling local specialties are also scheduled. Toyama-born actress and essayist Shigeru Muroi is scheduled to participate as a guest woman representative. Please come in person to experience this beautiful and solemn ritual born from sacred Mount Tateyama. Viewing is free.
