Japanese name:明通寺三重塔特別拝観
📅 Thu, Oct 1, 2026 - Mon, Nov 30, 2026
About this event
A special public viewing of the National Treasure three-story pagoda will be held at Myotsuji Temple in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. The inner sanctuary of the three-story pagoda, which is normally closed to the public, will be opened for a limited time, enshrining the Shaka Triad on the front and the Amida Triad on the rear. In addition, the Twelve Devas (Juniten) are vividly depicted on the four central pillars and walls, offering a rare opportunity to encounter Buddhist deities normally hidden from view. Myotsuji Temple's main hall and three-story pagoda are the only National Treasure structures in Fukui Prefecture. Utilizing architectural techniques of the Kamakura period, the three-story pagoda is considered one of Japan's representative Kamakura-period structures due to its excellent proportions and precision of bracket complexes. Take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy a special experience connecting with history and art.
