Japanese name:草木染めでオリジナル手ぬぐいを作ろうプラン
📅 Sat, Sep 5, 2026 - Sun, Sep 6, 2026
About this event
Kusakizome (botanical dyeing) is a traditional dyeing technique passed down from ancient times that uses nature's blessings, such as grasses and trees, to dye cloth. With this plan, you can experience this traditional botanical dyeing using plants from nature-rich Hayakawa Town. First, it begins with searching for and gathering dyeing plants with your own hands. After that, the collected plants are simmered thoroughly in a pot to create colorful dye baths. The charm of botanical dyeing lies in the surprisingly diverse colors produced depending on the plant species. What kind of color will emerge from the plants you choose? Dye your tenugui (Japanese hand towel) with that color to complete a one-of-a-kind original piece. Dyeing fabrics are provided, but you may also bring your own favorite fabric to dye. Through this experience, you can fully appreciate the beauty of natural colors and the joy of crafting.
