About this event
An international music festival (commonly known as OMF) founded in 1992 by conductor Seiji Ozawa and held every summer in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Centered around the Saito Kinen Orchestra (SKO), which brings together outstanding musicians from around the world, it presents a wide range of orchestral (symphony), opera, and chamber music concerts with a diverse repertoire. In 2026, Nodoka Okisawa and Francois-Xavier Roth will conduct orchestra concerts, performing works such as Messiaen's "Turangalila-Symphonie" and Bruckner's Symphony No. 8. Additionally, in the "Fureai Concert" commemorating the 30th anniversary of Toru Takemitsu's passing, works by Ravel, Debussy, and Toru Takemitsu will be performed, and the "OMF Chamber Music Study Group" aimed at nurturing young musicians will also be held. Supported by Matsumoto's rich nature and the passion of its music-loving citizens, this is a celebration of music broadcast to the world from the City of Music, Matsumoto, where musicians and audiences from across the globe resonate together.
