About this event
Held on the Norikura Echo Line—the bicycle road closest to the sky—the 'Norikura Hill Climb' is one of Japan's largest bicycle hill climb races, boasting the longest history in the country. With the finish line at an altitude of 2,720 meters, it is the highest-altitude bicycle race course in Japan, allowing riders to experience the true thrill of cycling. Challenging the climb alongside numerous cyclists gathering from Japan and abroad while enjoying the rich and magnificent scenery of Norikura Highlands, this race is so popular that the venue is called the holy ground of hill climbs. Featuring a distance of 20.5 km, an elevation gain of 1,260 m, and an average gradient of 6.1%, the course aims to let participants experience the charm of the Norikura Highlands and revitalize the local region through bicycle racing. Starting with 470 participants in its inaugural year in 1986 (Showa 61), it marked its 40th edition last year and has grown into a major event gathering 4,000 participants. During the race, riders can fully enjoy panoramic views of the abundant, magnificent Northern Alps.
