Takase Gorge Peak Autumn Foliage
Japanese name:高瀬渓谷 紅葉見ごろ
📅 Sun, Oct 11, 2026 - Tue, Nov 10, 2026
About this event
Located in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, the Takase Gorge is known as one of the prefecture's premier autumn foliage viewing spots. Along the Takase River, the entire surrounding area, including three dams—Omachi Dam, Nanakura Dam, and Takase Dam—as well as Kuzu Onsen, is colored with autumn leaves. The contrast between the massive dams suddenly appearing amidst majestic nature and the autumn colors is breathtaking. The typical peak viewing season runs from mid-October to early November, and depending on the timing, you can enjoy a blend of white (snow), green, red, and yellow foliage. In particular, viewing the foliage looking down from the Takase Dam crest, and the valley foliage from Kitakuzusawa just before the Takase Tunnel or Oirisawa Bridge are highly recommended. Additionally, the changing foliage adorning Nanakura Dam and Omachi Dam is also spectacular. The varieties of trees that change color are diverse, including maple, ginkgo, cherry, and beech. Admission is free, but private car traffic is restricted beyond Nanakura Sanso, allowing only designated taxis to pass.
