About this event
Held in Matsukawa Town, Nagano Prefecture, the Otahi Shrine Autumn Festival is a festival celebrating the autumn harvest and tradition, with the major highlight being the dedication of Daisangoku, where roaring pillars of fire erupt from bamboo tubes. Known as a thrilling fire festival that scorches the night sky, it fascinates local residents and visitors alike. Fireworks will also be launched, brilliantly coloring the autumn night sky. During the festival, the spectacle is truly exceptional as you can watch the flames vigorously spurting from the bamboo tubes up close. Because it gets cold at night, attending in a thick jacket and clothing safe against flying sparks (such as cotton garments) is recommended. This festival can be described as a signature autumn tradition fusing the rich nature of Matsukawa Town with traditional culture handed down since ancient times.
