About this event
Held in Anan Town, Nagano Prefecture, the "Gyonin-sama Autumn Festival (Sacred Unveiling & Dedication Fireworks)" is a seasonal autumn tradition featuring the unveiling of the Niino Gyonin-sama (a self-mummified monk / Sokushinbutsu), designated as a National Important Cultural Property, accompanied by a dedicated fireworks display. During the unveiling, visitors can view the rare figure of Hikozaemon Kubota, who became a living mummy approximately 370 years ago. It serves as an opportunity to appreciate the significance of marital love and friendship. To conclude the festival, dedicated fireworks light up the night sky, creating a magical atmosphere. Enjoy history, tradition, and beautiful fireworks on a long autumn night. *Note: This information is based on the 2026 schedule.
