About this event
This is the annual festival of Suwa Shrine and Hachiman Shrine held in Agematsu Town, Nagano Prefecture. Familiar to locals as a ritual to mark the end of the summer heat in Agematsu Town, a rare event takes place where a kagura procession marches from Suwa Shrine to Hachiman Shrine. One of the highlights of the festival is the dedication of Kabuki and Shishi Kyogen (lion comic theater) performed on the grounds of Agemachi Hachiman Shrine. During the eve festival on the first night, traditional local Ji-Kabuki and Shishi Kyogen known as Geizarai are performed, allowing visitors to appreciate the charm of performing arts passed down in the region. In addition, the procession of portable shrines (mikoshi) and kagura marching through the town is another highlight, allowing you to feel the lively festival atmosphere firsthand. This festival will be a precious experience unique to Agematsu Town where local traditional culture and faith are alive.
