About this event
Held annually on the last Sunday of October in Otaki Village, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture, the '13th Lake Ontake Half Marathon' takes place in a prime location overlooking beautiful autumn foliage, the lake, and mountains as a tournament commemorating the designation of Mount Ontake Quasi-National Park. Unique to Otaki Village with a population of approximately 650 people, the event features a warm, homemade, and hospitable operation by local villagers, and with a capacity under 1,000 participants, there is little crowding on the course or at the venue, allowing runners to enjoy the race at a relaxed pace. The exhilarating feeling of running while admiring the autumn foliage panorama at the foot of Mount Ontake is exceptional. In addition to the half marathon, 10km and 5km divisions are also prepared, welcoming a wide range of runners. At the opening ceremony, a prayer for safety is conducted by the chief priest of Ontake Shrine to pray for race safety and the runners' best efforts. Participants will receive an original T-shirt, and tonjiru (pork miso soup) (or mushroom soup) service is also planned after reaching the goal.
