About this event
This year features a new guide for a guided tour that covers not only sabo dams (erosion control dams) but a comprehensive range of sabo facilities. Two of the three featured sabo dams will make their first appearance. The tour provides diverse commentary combined with geology and topography, and includes a lunch of rice cooked in a traditional kamado stove. Materials spanning approximately 60 pages will also be distributed. On the tour, participants will visit various erosion control facilities including the Maki ground anchor group, Ogusaren Miyazawa Sabo Dam, and the Shimizuyama water collection well group. The itinerary departs from Minami-Otari Station, passes through the Nashidaira avalanche mitigation works, Karasawa Sabo Dam (construction site visit), Mushio horizontal boring work (drainage work), Ishihara Sabo Dam + channel works, and the lower Urakawa bed sill group, stops for lunch at Roadside Station Otari (Michi-no-Eki Otari), visits the Shimizuyama water collection well group, Maki ground anchor group, Ogusaren Miyazawa Sabo Dam, Happoiwa stabilization embankment, and Kakurezawa Nakatanihigashi Sabo Dam, and is scheduled to return to Minami-Otari Station. The itinerary is subject to change. As a special gift, participants will receive a set of Ogusaren Miyazawa Sabo Dam cards and original sabo dam postcards (a set of 3 cards each). Please participate in comfortable clothing suitable for walking (long sleeves and long pants recommended).
