Kinhaisha Hachioji Shrine Annual Grand Festival

This is an annual grand festival where Akechi Taiko drums echo for two days, centered around Hachioji Shrine, the local guardian deity with a history of over a thousand years. Young women dressed in yukata pull drums mounted on floats as they parade through the town. On the day of the festival, the town comes alive not only within the shrine precincts but also with worshippers from nearby and surrounding areas. On October 10, Shinto rituals and dedications will be held at Wakaichioji Shrine, and on October 11, the entrance to Hachioji Shrine (Miyairi), entertainment, dedicated taiko drum performances, and the departure from the shrine (Miyasagari) will be held. This festival is a valuable opportunity to deeply experience the traditions and culture of the region.
