Gero Art Discovery 2026

About this event

Set in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, home to Gero Onsen—one of Japan's three famous hot springs—the art project "Gero Art Discovery 2026" will be held, utilizing lush forests, abandoned schools, and historic townscapes. This new art festival explores the relationship between humans and nature as well as the past and future through art, under the theme of "Discovery"—discovering the local area and oneself by immersing mind, body, and the five senses in Art and hot springs. In the "Minna no Gakko" (Everyone's School) project set in the former Yuya Elementary School, an art project shaping everyone's elementary school memories will unfold, ranging from everyday school life such as classes, school lunches, recess, and school broadcasts, to annual events like entrance ceremonies, sports days, and school trips, as well as summer vacation independent research and book reports. Numerous artists from Japan and abroad will participate, offering an experience to rediscover the charming place of Gero and oneself through site-specific exhibitions.
