About this event
Gifu Sekigahara Battlefield Memorial Museum and Tomika Town will hold a collaborative seminar focusing on the Sengoku period in the Higashi-Mino region. The seminar re-examines the Higashi-Mino conquest campaign by Oda Nobunaga—triggered in 1565 (Eiroku 8) by Kajita Castle secretly allying with Nobunaga's side—from the perspective of regional history, particularly focusing on Dodo Castle, which became a fierce battlefield including the Battle of Dodo. In the seminar, Mr. Naoki Sakamoto, a curator from the Tomika Town Board of Education, will present under the title "The Higashi-Mino Region and Oda Nobunaga: Deciphering History from Regional Society," examining regional characteristics of 16th-century Higashi-Mino, transitions in regional society, and Nobunaga's policies. In addition, the Seki High School Regional Research Club will present on "Issues Surrounding Dodo Castle," covering the relationship between Dodo Castle Lord Kishi Kageyu and Kajita Castle Lord Sato Kii-no-Kami Tadayoshi, as well as the background of the fierce battle. This seminar will be a valuable opportunity to understand from multiple angles the historical transitions of the 16th-century Higashi-Mino region that served as a foothold for Nobunaga's conquest of Mino. A booth promoting Tomika Town tourism will also be set up at the venue.
