Niinamesai, giving thanks for the autumn harvest, is a traditional celebration originating from the imperial court ritual where the Emperor offers new grains to the deities. Held at Kinomiya Shrine in Atami City, prayers are offered for bumper crops. Beyond a simple harvest festival, this event unfolds across the town of Atami as a special autumn festival fused with local community exchange. A highlight of the festival is the "Akagi Shrine Giant Snake Mikoshi (Portable Shrine)" arriving from Oigami Onsen in Numata City, Gunma Prefecture; the sight of the 30-meter-long giant snake parading from Atami Station to City Hall envelops the entire town in excitement, showcasing a powerful and impressive procession. In addition, on stage, a shakuhachi performance by musician Ryudo Yamagami and a musical featuring a dance and chorus of over 50 performers produced by 123MUSIC will be staged, captivating the audience. These programs are themed around the divine blessings of Izusan Shrine, such as matchmaking, good fortune, and harmonious wealth. A flea market and kitchen cars (food trucks) will also open within the shrine grounds, gathering local flavors such as deep-fried horse mackerel (aji fry), crepes, yakisoba, and Gunma's specialty yaki-manju (grilled sweet buns). Fresh vegetables and fruits from local farmers, honey, and processed gibier (wild game) products will be on sale, along with a wide selection of handmade sundries and accessories. Furthermore, a fun lottery with free participation will be held, further enlivening the festive atmosphere. On the day, special microbuses linking Atami Station and Izusan Shrine will also operate, providing convenient access.
