27th Lord Nobunaga Autumn Foliage Festival

Held in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the 27th Lord Nobunaga Autumn Foliage Festival originates from the legend of Oda Nobunaga's burial mound (Kubi-zuka) passed down at Nishiyama Honmon-ji Temple. Based on the legend that Nobunaga's head was buried at the base of a 500-year-old holly tree, the festival is held in November when the temple grounds' grand ginkgo trees turn vibrant yellow. The festival features many traditional Japanese attractions themed around Lord Nobunaga, with the powerful matchlock gun demonstration being especially popular. A series of performances reminiscent of Sengoku-period picture scrolls will take place, including a memorial service for Lord Nobunaga, dedication dances, folding fan dances, the Tenka Fubu Dance of Lord Nobunaga, Iai swordsmanship, open-field Kendo matches, Kiyari chanting processions, Matoi banner waving, and acrobatic ladder climbing. Visitors can also enjoy open-air tea ceremonies, erhu musical performances, and swordsmithing demonstrations. Numerous stalls offering gourmet food, sundry goods, and crafts are also scheduled, captivating all who visit.
