Japanese name:第14回石曳き道灌まつり花火大会
📅 Sat, Sep 5, 2026
About this event
The Ishihiki Dokan Festival recreates the historical hauling of stones from the Izu Peninsula used to construct Edo Castle. This festival passes down the history of 'Oishihiki' (stone pulling) to the present day. On the day of the event, stone pullers are recruited on-site (first 250 people), offering participants a firsthand experience of working together to pull a massive boulder. Visitors can also enjoy powerful performances of local folk performing arts such as Atagawa Dokan Taiko drumming, as well as local food stalls and kitchen cars. As the festival reaches its climax, consecutive volleys of fireworks light up the night sky over the hot spring town, creating a magical spectacle. The event also includes activities themed around the legend of warlord Ota Dokan, builder of Edo Castle, who is said to have founded the hot spring town after accidentally discovering the hot river flowing through the area.
