About this event
A hands-on ocean play experience event set in Kigashita—a secluded spot in the Kumomi district of Matsuzaki Town, Shizuoka Prefecture that is accessible only by boat—will be held. During snorkeling in the highly transparent sea, you can observe fish living in the reefs and the underwater scenery. In addition, you can enjoy underwater fishing using a dedicated underwater fishing rod and a fishing experience pulling up crab nets together with fishermen. This event is a valuable opportunity not only for marine leisure but also to experience the local fishing culture. Departing by boat from Kumomi Port, which has supported coastal fishing since ancient times, you can also enjoy views of the sacred rope-adorned Ushitsuki Rock and Mount Fuji across Suruga Bay. Diverse marine life inhabits this dynamic sea area, and a program is planned where you can experience its charms firsthand. The organizer, Izu Fisheries Cooperative Association Matsuzaki Branch, is working on ocean-based experiential projects to address challenges such as maintaining rocky shore environments and conserving local resources amid a decline in fishermen. It was organized with the goal of letting many people know about the charm of the sea and the rocky shore environment through this event. It is held twice each day in the morning and afternoon, with a capacity of 20 people per session. The target audience is upper elementary school students and older, and elementary school students must be accompanied by a guardian. The participation fee includes the cruise fee, snorkel equipment rental, life jacket, and event insurance. Underwater fishing rods are available for rent separately.
