Autumn Leaves at Oguni Jinja Shrine
Japanese name:小國神社の紅葉
📅 Fri, Nov 20, 2026 - Thu, Dec 10, 2026
About this event
At Oguni Jinja Shrine located in Mori Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, when autumn arrives, about one thousand maple trees spreading along the clear waters of the Miya River color the shrine grounds and captivate visitors. The best viewing period is usually from late November to early December, and the autumn leaves reflecting on the water's surface dye the Miya River like brocade, creating a heartwarming and superb view. In recent years, many worshippers also visit during the fresh green maple season, and nighttime illuminations are held in both seasons, allowing visitors to enjoy magical scenery. In Reiwa 7 (2025), the 'Momiji Bridge' spanning the Ichinomiya River, which had been washed away by a typhoon, was reconstructed, and the surrounding autumn foliage has attracted attention from within and outside the prefecture, as well as overseas, as a scenic photo spot. The 'Enmusubi Momiji Amulet,' themed on the maples of the Miya River, is also a popular sacred charm. In addition, Oguni Jinja Shrine is known as a prayer site where Lord Ieyasu prayed for the fulfillment of his great ambitions, and 'Lord Ieyasu's Standing Stone' within the grounds attracts devotion. Furthermore, at the 'Doreikan' (Clay Bell Hall), which exhibits clay bells from ancient and modern times, east and west, visitors can admire a soothing variety of clay bells. The operation of the 'Kaiun Line' shuttle bus connecting JR Fukuroi Station and Oguni Jinja Shrine has also begun, making access for worshipping convenient. In front of the shrine gate, there is 'Oguni Kotomachi Yokocho,' where visitors can enjoy local specialty products and light meals.
