About this event

According to press release materials on Okazaki City's official website, "Let's Explore the Seikaibori Moat 2026" is a popular annual event that offers a rare opportunity to descend into the Seikaibori Moat—normally closed to the public—and experience the towering stone walls and impressive earthworks up close. The Seikaibori Moat is said to be named after "Seikai Nyudo," the title of Saigo Yoritsugu who built Okazaki Castle, and is packed with Okazaki Castle's charms, such as inwardly curved stone walls. Established to defend the north of the main keep (honmaru), this dry moat holds high historical value, allowing visitors to feel its grandeur firsthand. The event will be held on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays from Sunday, November 1, 2026, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, for a total of 11 days. It operates in two sessions: from 10:00 to 12:00 (last entry at 11:30) and from 13:00 to 15:00 (last entry at 14:30), allowing free exploration during these hours. The participation fee is 200 yen, which includes insurance and helmet rental. The event is open to those who can descend temporary stairs on their own. It will be canceled in case of rain.
