About this event
Held in Ama City, Aichi Prefecture, "Let's Experience Shippo Crafts" is a special opportunity to experience the charm of Owari Shippo (cloisonne enamelware), a traditional Japanese craft. In this event, two special courses not available on the regular menu are offered: the Base Metal Craft Course and the Wire Placement Craft Course. In the Base Metal Craft Course, you hammer a copper plate to create your own unique dish. The process of shaping a circular plate with a diameter of about 15 centimeters into a dish allows you to experience the artisan's technique up close. In the Wire Placement Craft Course, you apply patterns with silver wire parts to a 5-centimeter-diameter round copper plate and fire cloisonne enamel to create a brooch. Both courses allow you to experience the Shippoyaki technique of firing beautiful glassy enamel onto a metal surface. Completed pieces can be taken home on the same day, giving you a one-of-a-kind original Shippo accessory. At the Ama City Shippo Art Village, you can also tour the Shippoyaki exhibition room and learn deeply about the history and appeal of Owari Shippo. Please take this opportunity to fully enjoy the depth of traditional crafts and the joy of making things.
