📍 Matsusaka, Mie

About this event

Held annually to commemorate Lord Gamo Ujisato, the main highlight of the 65th Ujisato Festival is the warrior procession (Musha Gyoretsu), which begins with a departure ceremony at the National Historic Site of Matsusaka Castle Ruins and winds through the Gojoban Yashiki and samurai residences in the former Doshin-machi. The grand procession of 200 participants, featuring samurai clad in armor, Ujisato's wife Princess Fuyu, and matchlock gun corps, is full of impact and draws bustling crowds of spectators. It is a traditional festival rooted in the community, honoring the achievements of Lord Gamo Ujisato, who laid the foundation for the commercial city of Matsusaka.
