About this event

This is a commemorative lecture associated with the special exhibition "Daisaiin: The Tale of Are-otome" held at the Saiku Historical Museum in Meiwa Town, Taki District, Mie Prefecture. Titled "The Salon and Literature of Imperial Princess Senshi, the Daisaiin", the lecture will be delivered by Professor Nobuho Higashi of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Faculty of Letters at Kinjo Gakuin University. The Kamo Saiin where Imperial Princess Senshi served was an elegant cultural salon where poets and nobles gathered, fostering a splendid court culture on par with the empress's court salons where Sei Shonagon and Murasaki Shikibu flourished. This lecture delves deeply into the historical context of the period in which Imperial Princess Senshi lived and examines the relationship between her salon and literature. Together with the special exhibition, it offers a rare opportunity to appreciate the court culture and literary world of the Heian period. The venue is the Saiku Historical Museum Auditorium, with a seating capacity of 120 people. Admission is free, but advance application by return postcard or electronic registration during the application window is required.
