Autumn Special Exhibition: Kuwana Castle and the Castle Town
Japanese name:秋季企画展「桑名城と城下町」
📅 Sat, Sep 12, 2026 - Mon, Oct 12, 2026
About this event
This exhibition visually introduces the characteristics of Kuwana Castle and its castle town, including the defensive functions of Kuwana Castle seen through its walls, moats, and turrets; insights from the Kuwana Domain territory and town planning; and how the castle was depicted in samurai life and ukiyo-e prints. It deciphers the details of Tadakatsu Honda's "Keicho Town Planning" and the layout (nawabari) of Kuwana Castle using castle maps. On the 2nd floor, the special feature display "Sword Selection II" presents swords from the museum collection, centered on swordsmiths associated with Kuwana. In addition, as a related event, an exhibition gallery talk by the curator in charge will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, starting at 1:30 PM. Furthermore, as a collaborative project between the Kuwana City Museum and Kuwana City Central Library, a seminar titled "Kuwana Castle and Castle Town" will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Kuwana Media Live. The seminar will be lectured by Ms. Yurami Otsuka (Historical Specialist at Kuwana City Museum), with a capacity of 50 people and a material fee of 300 yen. Applications will open on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
