Held at Maruyama Senmaida in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture—one of Japan's largest and most beautiful terraced rice fields—the "Rice Harvesting Gathering" is a special event where you can experience the harvest autumn with golden ears of rice swaying in the breeze. Guided by local residents, participants experience traditional rice harvesting using sickles, bundle the cut rice stalks, and hang them on wooden drying racks (hasa). Feeling the autumn breeze blowing through the terraced fields, the swaying bundles of rice, and the voices of people echoing through the mountain village, you can spend a rich time unavailable in urban life. After the work, a bento box featuring local blessings is provided while overlooking the terraced fields, allowing you to deepen exchanges with local residents while enveloped in the scent of soil and feeling the breath of nature. Rather than just a harvesting experience, this event provides an opportunity to connect with the thoughts of the people and the satoyama way of life passed down over generations.
