About this event
Referred to as the largest festival of fire in Mie Prefecture, the 55th Sohei Festival is a traditional festival originating from the warrior monks of Mitake-ji Temple who fought bravely against Oda Nobunaga. The highlight of the festival is the heroic sight of men dressed in warrior monk attire carrying a 600-kilogram mikoshi (portable shrine) while raising torches that swirl with intense flames, parading along the Yunoyama Onsen town for about 2 kilometers. In addition to this powerful parade, various events such as fireworks launches, stage shows, performances, and night food stalls are held, entertaining the many visiting spectators. Recreating and passing down the figure of warrior monks who celebrated courage, perseverance, and justice to the present day, this festival—known to those in the know as an extraordinary festival—ignites the hearts of onlookers alongside the blazing flames.
