Otaue Grand Festival (Tarobogu Shrine)
Japanese name:お田植大祭(太郎坊宮)
📅 Sun, May 16, 2027
📍 Higashiomi, Shiga
About this event
This is a traditional ritual praying for bumper crops and industrial prosperity. It offers a rare opportunity to observe up close the vanishing practice of manual rice planting done by human hands, and the traditional sight of saotome (female rice planters) dressed in sedge hats, arm covers, and gaiters planting rice seedlings is exceptional.
