About this event
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Doshisha University Kyotanabe Campus in April 2026, a special exhibition looking back at the historical connection between Doshisha and Kyotanabe up to the present day will be held. Its beginning dates back to April 30, 1882, when Doshisha founder Joseph Hardy Neesima (Jo Niijima) attended the opening ceremony of Nanzan Gijuku and delivered a congratulatory address. Kyotanabe was a place associated with people who agreed with the educational reform proposed by Neesima and provided generous support. In 1986, about 100 years after Neesima passed away, Doshisha University's new campus was opened in Kyotanabe. Through historical materials, this exhibition traces the exchanges deepened through various events held at the Kyotanabe Campus and the steps taken to imagine and create a shared future between Doshisha and Kyotanabe. Focusing also on the forms of materials that tell modern and contemporary history, it introduces the relationship between Doshisha and Kyotanabe. Admission is free.
