Nagaoka Tenmangu Summer Festival
Japanese name:長岡天満宮 夏まつり
📅 Tue, Aug 25, 2026
📍 Nagaokakyo, Kyoto
About this event
At the Summer Festival held every year at Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine, many evening stalls open on the shrine grounds, creating a lively atmosphere. As dedication events, Japanese taiko drumming (Kitakaida Hibiki Daiko), Kuze Rokusai Nembutsu, and Bon dance contests of Nagaokakyo Ondo and Goshu Ondo will be held on a special stage. In particular, from dusk, an illumination project by the tourism association is held at the Hachijogaike Floating Bridge, allowing visitors to enjoy a magical atmosphere. Passing through the chinowa reed ring to ward off evil is also available all day, making it an ideal event for spending a long summer evening. Street stalls begin operating from dusk as soon as they are ready and can be enjoyed until late at night. As there is no parking available on the day, arriving on foot or by bicycle is recommended. In addition, some traffic restrictions will be in effect, so using public transportation is convenient.
