About this event
A historical walking tour event tracing history through the Yamamoto and Kozu areas, which have flourished as vital transportation hubs since ancient times. A major highlight is the traditional ritual 'Yamamoto no Hyakumi' offered at the annual festival of Saga Shrine, allowing you to observe this rare regional ceremonial offering firsthand. Furthermore, visitors will trace the 'footprints of Buddha statues' that have been passed down along with the transitions of ancient temples: from Miyamaki Abandoned Temple (Miyamaki Haiji) to Enichi Abandoned Temple (Enichi Haiji), and to the current Juho-ji Temple. The tour also explores the relocation history of Saga Shrine, which moved from the former site of the Grand Shrine to the Otobisho and then to its current location. It is a walking tour to encounter the hidden history and culture of Kyotanabe, witnessing contemporary festival traditions while walking through the area's ancient heritage. The tour will proceed rain or shine, but will be canceled if a weather warning is in effect at the event location at 7:00 AM on the day of the event.
