About this event

On Tuesday (national holiday), November 3, 2026, a tour to experience the "Tayama Hana Odori" (Flower Dance), designated as a Kyoto Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property, will be held in Minamiyamashiro Village, Kyoto Prefecture. In this tour, you will learn the history and background of Tayama Hana Odori in the morning, and enjoy trying on actual traditional costumes and taking commemorative photos. For lunch, a special Hana Odori bento made with local village ingredients will be served. In the afternoon, you will watch the Tayama Hana Odori starting at 13:00. Special viewing seats are provided at Suwa Shrine, allowing you to experience up-close traditional rituals packed with highlights, such as the street procession (Dochu Gyoretsu), the Shinbuchi oral proclamation, and the garden dance (Niwa Odori). An experience stimulating all five senses awaits you, including the gorgeously dancing "Shinai" adorned props moved along with dance motions, the sound of drums, conch shells (horagai), and sasara bamboo clappers. A rice-cake tossing ceremony (mochimaki) will also take place after the garden dance. The tour is scheduled to conclude around 15:00 at Michi-no-Eki Tea Country Kyoto Minamiyamashiro-mura, and includes a 500-yen shopping voucher that can be used at the roadside station. An overnight stay plan is also available, making it a special trip to connect with the village's rich nature and culture.
