About this event
Held in Kasagi Town, Kyoto Prefecture, the "Autumn Festival" takes place at local shrines throughout the town on the second Saturday and Sunday of October. This festival is a traditional event featuring distinct characteristics depending on the area. At Kunitsu Shrine, a "Naki Sumo" (crying baby sumo) is dedicated, where a deity and male infants engage in (or simulate) sumo wrestling. This is known as a unique ritual praying for children's healthy growth. Meanwhile, at Kurisu Shrine, processions of children's portable shrines and pulled carts are conducted during the day, enlivening the community. At night, a dynamic "Futon Mikoshi" procession by adult men is carried out, building up to the festival's climax. Through these festivities, visitors can experience the rich history and culture of Kasagi Town, as well as the charm of a festival rooted in the daily lives of local people.
