About this event
This walking event offers participants a hands-on experience exploring the history and legends of the birthplace of Ibaraki Doji, the mascot character of Ibaraki City. Gathering in front of Onikuru (near the lawn plaza), the tour starts at 9:00 AM and covers a course of approximately 3 km. Along the route, participants will visit sites including the Ibaraki Doji Statue, the site of the Execution Grounds Forest (Keijo no Mori), the Hyomasu "Ibaraki Doji Kaomise Bridge Site" Monument, the Yasunari Kawabata Memorial Monument, the Shinjo Bridge Site, the Mizuonoike Monument Site, the Ayame Bridge Site, the Masago Waterway Sluice Site, the Olive Forest, the Bronze Bell Mold Excavation Site, Sawaragi Shrine, and Doso Shrine / Mizu Shrine. Additionally, the tour visits historic spots such as the Sawaragi Castle Ruins and the Sendo Sluice Site, unraveling the story of Ibaraki Doji alongside river history. The tour concludes around Hankyu Ibaraki-shi Station around 12:00 PM. The fee is 500 yen for general participants and 300 yen for Tourism Association members. Please bring your own rain gear and wear comfortable walking clothes. This event is a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of local history, culture, and nature while reflecting on the legend of Ibaraki Doji.
